Grower Tips:

-High light in production is essential. -Cold vernalization adds to bud count, but warmer temperatures are needed to elongate flower stems. -Optimal vernalization is at 38 to 40 degrees for 8-10 weeks with short day conditions. -Plants can be forced once vernalized using warm temperatures and long days. To Get Leucanthemum to Flower: Leucanthemum is cold beneficial which means you NEED the cold temperatures. The vernalization/bulking photoperiod and conditions are 9 hr days with 8-10 weeks at 38 to 40 degrees F. It is not an either or kind of thing, high quality plants require both vernalization and then warmer production temperatures to elongate stems. Without vernalization either at liner stage or in grow out stages of production it is difficult to produce high quality plants. After vernalization the forcing/flowering photoperiod is 16 hr days, or natural days 4 hr NI at production temperatures. Leucanthemum can often be sensitive to pesticide toxicity. Care should be taken when applying chemicals.

Vernalization: Needed for good flower production and improved growth habit.

Spring Outdoor Finish?: A - First to go outside

I just discovered your website in the April issue of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. I love it! I will no longer have to purchase expensive gardening books which become outdated to get the latest up-to-date gardening information. I especially like the section on designing container gardens.
